How are duties calculated?

All international mail coming into Canada is subject to review by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). The CBSA determines whether the goods may enter into Canada and if any duty and/or taxes apply.

Duty is a tariff payable on an item imported into Canada. Rates of duty are established by the Department of Finance Canada and can vary significantly from one trade agreement to another.

This tariff is then applied to the value of the goods which is a percentage based on the commodity.

You can find a government tool to calculate your duties and taxes in the following link: https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/guide-3-eng.html
